Making Audio Content Accessible and Actionable

At sylvantics, we believe that every conversation, meeting, and recorded interaction holds value. Our mission is to help organisations capture, understand, and leverage their audio content through thoughtful application of speech recognition and AI transcription technologies.

Our Story

Founded on the principle that audio should be as searchable and actionable as text

sylvantics was established in 2019 by a team of linguists, audio engineers, and software developers who recognised that organisations across Singapore were sitting on vast repositories of unstructured audio data. Meeting recordings, customer calls, research interviews, and training sessions were being archived but rarely revisited because locating specific information required listening to hours of content.

We saw an opportunity to apply emerging speech recognition and natural language processing technologies to solve this problem. Our initial projects focused on legal firms transcribing depositions and medical practices documenting patient consultations. These early engagements taught us that accuracy alone wasn't enough — organisations needed systems that understood domain terminology, handled accented speech gracefully, and integrated seamlessly into existing workflows.

Today, sylvantics serves clients across education, finance, healthcare, legal services, media production, and corporate sectors. We've expanded from simple batch transcription to real-time speech processing, multilingual support, speaker diarisation, topic extraction, and sentiment analysis. Our platform processes thousands of hours of audio each month, helping organisations reduce documentation time, improve compliance, and extract insights that would otherwise remain buried in recordings.

What sets us apart is our commitment to understanding each client's unique audio landscape. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we conduct workflow assessments, customise models with domain vocabulary, fine-tune accuracy for specific acoustic environments, and provide ongoing support to ensure our systems continue to meet evolving needs.

Quality Standards & Protocols

We maintain rigorous standards across all aspects of speech recognition and transcription delivery.

Data Security

All audio files and transcripts are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256. Access controls ensure only authorised personnel can view content. We comply with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act and maintain ISO 27001 information security practices.

Accuracy Monitoring

We conduct regular accuracy benchmarking using word error rate metrics. Model performance is tracked across different audio conditions, languages, and domains. Clients receive quarterly accuracy reports showing system performance trends and improvement initiatives.

Client Support

Technical support is available Monday to Friday during business hours via email and phone. Critical issues receive response within four hours. Enterprise clients benefit from dedicated account management and priority support channels.

Language Expertise

Our platform supports English, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil, and additional languages through partner networks. Phonetic dictionaries are continuously updated with regional vocabulary, technical terms, and industry jargon to improve recognition accuracy.

Integration Standards

Our systems provide RESTful APIs, webhook notifications, and direct integrations with common productivity platforms. Documentation follows OpenAPI specifications. We support both cloud-based and on-premises deployment models to accommodate diverse infrastructure requirements.

Professional Memberships

sylvantics maintains membership in the Singapore Computer Society and the Association for Computational Linguistics. Our team members contribute to industry working groups focused on speech technology standards and multilingual NLP development.

Our Approach to Speech Recognition

Speech recognition technology has advanced considerably in recent years, but successful deployment still requires careful attention to acoustic environments, language patterns, domain vocabulary, and integration contexts. We approach each project by first understanding how audio content flows through an organisation — where it originates, who needs access to transcripts, what accuracy levels are required, and how transcripts will be used.

Our methodology emphasises incremental improvement rather than promises of perfection. We begin with baseline accuracy measurements using standard audio samples, then progressively tune models through vocabulary training, acoustic adaptation, and speaker profile development. This iterative approach allows us to identify the most impactful improvements early while managing expectations around what current technology can realistically achieve.

Data privacy receives particular attention in our implementations. Many clients handle sensitive information in their audio content — customer personal details, medical records, legal discussions, proprietary business information. We design systems that allow organisations to retain control over where audio files and transcripts are stored, who can access them, and how long they are retained. For highly sensitive applications, we support on-premises deployment models that keep all data within client infrastructure.

Multilingual capabilities present both opportunities and challenges in Singapore's diverse linguistic environment. Code-switching between languages mid-conversation is common, as are accents reflecting the region's multicultural population. Rather than treating these as problems to solve, we view them as normal characteristics of real-world speech that our systems should handle gracefully. This involves training models on diverse speaker samples and maintaining separate language pathways that can be invoked as needed during transcription.

Integration with existing tools often determines whether a transcription system gets used regularly or sits idle. We prioritise understanding an organisation's current technology stack and designing connection points that fit naturally into established workflows. This might mean pushing transcripts directly into a document management system, triggering notifications in a collaboration platform, or feeding structured data into a CRM. The goal is to make transcripts immediately useful rather than creating another system that requires separate attention.

Long-term accuracy maintenance requires ongoing attention as vocabulary evolves, new speakers join organisations, and audio quality varies across different recording devices. We provide quarterly accuracy assessments, model updates with new vocabulary, and recommendations for improving audio capture quality. This continuous improvement process ensures that transcription systems remain valuable assets rather than becoming outdated as circumstances change.
